This is a really fun exercise for any age. I recently was the participant in this exercise. I’m 63 and I chose to travel 20 years. Now, just to clarify, when I chose 20, I was thinking we would be working towards that. No, we went from 63 to 83, just like that and then beyond 83. It was an interesting conversation to say the least and this is what I noticed at 83 and beyond:
- I have taken care of myself and I am healthy at 83
- My quality of life is good
- I am surrounded by people who love and support me
- I am making sound decisions
- I continue to make a difference in this world
This exercise allows us to visualize what is possible to create in our life no matter how far we choose to look. We may not have a clue on how to get there or have the evidence to believe that it will happen. But, with it in mind, we can begin to formulate a plan and move towards it. If we are unable to picture it, what is keeping us from seeing it? In other words, what has our attention? Last week, I shared this exercise with a client. She could not even picture a year from now because she felt paralyzed and stuck now. I kept circling back and asking, what has your attention? She listed a lot of things. It was just a list with nothing being accomplished.
What Has Her Attention?
She realized from the information that we gathered that her focus was presently on the “PANDEMIC” causing her to be stuck and paralyzed. It is fun to let ourselves travel in time. Your imagination can picture all kinds of things that are possible and are waiting to be created. How far are we traveling in time and what do you notice upon arrival?
And, from the information gathered, how will “YOU” presently make the best use of your time.
